About this Race
The Osaka Marathon is a flat, well-organized city course through Japan's spirited second metropolis, sweeping down the broad Midosuji boulevard and past the moats and stone walls of Osaka Castle. The route showcases the city's mix of commerce and tradition on immaculate, tightly marshaled streets typical of Japanese racing, with a profile that stays gentle throughout. Run in late winter, it delivers cool conditions and the warm, orderly enthusiasm of Japanese crowds. There are no major hills to fear, only the discipline required to hold an even effort on a fast layout. It suits runners who want a smooth, hospitable big-city race and a quick time without the lottery odds of Tokyo.
Course Insight
Osaka is a tidy, flat city marathon that threads past landmarks like Osaka Castle and the neon of the central districts, built for steady, fast running rather than tactical fireworks. The absence of hills means nothing externally enforces patience, so the discipline is yours to supply on the long urban straights. Winter timing keeps temperatures low and legs fresh, ideal for a personal best if you don't squander the early kilometres. Crowds are warm and constant without overwhelming. Treat the smooth, flat profile as a test of restraint; the course gives back exactly the evenness you put in.

Race History
The mass-participation Osaka Marathon was first held in 2011, in a city with a deep distance-running heritage that already included the long-running Osaka International Ladies Marathon. After the historic Lake Biwa Marathon held its final edition in 2021, the elite men's championship racing it once hosted was consolidated into Osaka, raising the event's competitive profile. Known for its immaculate organization and a course past Osaka Castle, it has become one of Japan's premier marathons. Run in late winter, it now draws tens of thousands of finishers each year.
